iPad pro can’t enter DFU

I press and release volume up, volume down, then hold the power button, yet it won’t enter DFU mode. What am I doing wrong?

Putting your iPad in DFU mode.

If your iPad has a Home button:

  1. Use a Lightning cable to plug your iPad into a computer.
  2. Open iTunes if you have a PC or a Mac running macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier.
  3. Open Finder if you have a Mac running macOS Catalina 10.15 or newer.
  4. Hold down the power button and the Home button simultaneously.
  5. Keep holding both buttons for three seconds after the screen goes black.
  6. Let go of the power button while holding down the Home button.
  7. Keep holding the Home button until your iPad appears in iTunes or Finder.
  8. Click Restore iPad.

If your iPad doesn't have a Home button:

  1. Connect your iPad to your computer with a Lightning cable.
  2. Open iTunes or Finder.
  3. Press and hold the power button again.
  4. Wait 3 seconds, then press and hold the volume down button while still holding the power button.
  5. Hold both buttons for 10 more seconds, then let go of the power button.
  6. Keep holding the volume down button for another 5 seconds.
  7. Release the volume down button when your iPad appears in iTunes or Finder.
  8. Click Restore iPad.

If this still doesn't work.

For iPad models with a Home button, do a simple hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake/power button simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons.

OR

For much newer design iPad models, without a Home button, try the new simple hard reset procedure for the new 2018/2020/2021 iPad Pros, 2020 iPad Air 4 and 2021 iPad Mini 6 models.

1. Press and release the volume up button.

2. Then immediately press and release the volume down button.

3. Then, press and hold the single sleep/wake/power button You will see the Slide to Power off button, but keep on holding down the power button until you see the Apple logo, then let it go.

Once you have performed all the steps, wait for a few seconds and your 2018 iPad Pro will boot up completely to the iPad Pro’s Lock screen.

Also, try a restart or forced restart of your Mac or Windows PC

Then, try all the above DFU procedures, again.

Best of Luck to You!
