AirPods Pro 2 and Battery Status

Hello all. I just got my new APP2 yesterday and I’m having an odd software (my guess) bug with the battery widget on iPhone 12 running 16.0.2. When I’m using one AirPod, doesn’t matter which, the Battery widget shows the, assuming, correct %, but it also shows a ‘ghost’ 0% status for that same Airpod at the same time. The ghost goes away when both are used or both are in the case. Anyone else experiencing this rather odd behavior?

Hi rothnd,

To clarify, does this 'ghost' percentage overlap the other one? Also, is this the stock Battery widget or a third-party one?

Additionally if you remove the widget and re-add it, does the issue persist?

"How to remove widgets

  1. Touch and hold the widget that you want to remove.
  2. Tap Remove Widget.
  3. Tap Remove again to confirm."

If it does, the next step we'd recommend is to reset your AirPods. Those steps can be found here:

If the issue persists, let us know.

Cheers!

Hello Rothnd,

Thanks for providing us with the screenshots. We see exactly what you mean. To ensure that we're covering all of our bases, let's clean your AirPods Pro and the charging case.

Clean your AirPods and AirPods Pro:

• Don’t run AirPods or AirPods Pro under water.
• Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
• If your AirPods or AirPods Pro are exposed to anything that might cause stains or other damage—for example, soaps, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, perfumes, solvents, detergent, acids or acidic foods, insect repellent, sunscreen, oil, or hair dye:
• Wipe them clean with a cloth slightly dampened with fresh water and dry with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
• Allow them to completely dry before placing in the charging case.
• Don't attempt to use them until they're completely dry.
• Make sure not to get any liquid in the openings.
• Clean the microphone and speaker meshes with a dry cotton swab.
• Don't use sharp objects or abrasive materials to clean your AirPods or AirPods Pro.
Clean the case of your AirPods or AirPods Pro
Clean the charging case with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. If necessary, you can slightly dampen the cloth with isopropyl alcohol. Allow the charging case to dry. Make sure not to get any liquid in the charging ports. Here are a few more guidelines:
• Remove any debris from the Lightning connector with a clean, dry, soft-bristled brush.
• Don't use abrasive materials to clean the charging case.
• To avoid damaging the metal contacts, don't put anything in the charging ports.
Clean the ear tips of your AirPods Pro
1. If any water has accumulated in the ear tip, tap the AirPod on a soft, dry, lint-free cloth with the ear tip opening facing downward to remove.
2. Pull off the ear tips from each AirPod and rinse the ear tips with water. Don't use soap or other household cleaners.
3. Wipe the ear tips with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Make sure that the ear tips are completely dry before reattaching to each AirPod.
4. Click the ear tips back on each AirPod. The ear tips are oval shaped, so make sure that you align them before you click them back on.

If you continue to experience the same behavior, we suggest reaching out to Apple directly. Depending on your region, you may be able to connect with them here:

Take care!

Same issue here. iPhone 14 Pro Max with Airpods Pro 1 worked fine.

Airpods Pro 2 create a bugged Battery widget.

I unpaired them from my iCloud Account and re-paired them.

Additionally, when you put the Airpods in your case one by one, the white gadget that shows power and status for the Airpods and Case shows up for each Airpod. That means it pops up twice.

Something is messed up and that never happened with the Gen1.

The main issue with this "stuck widget" is the fact that you have no idea about the charge in your case when you charge it because it will not show that the case is charging (but it is).

Airpods are running the following Versions:

Version 5B58

Case 51.11.1

I was really happy that the widget showed the Charge at all times but after I realized it was a bug, I got sad.

That would have been a great opportunity to always know the state of your Airpods Pro 2 battery.

I have the same issue with seemingly dead extra AirPods (for example the right one is shown once correctly and once incorrectly) and just this evening I had a new problem, that the charge of my case was not visible at all. Only plugging in the charger helped (it immediately showed 76%, so it was not empty).

I already reset the AirPods Pro 2 and my iPhone is on the latest version of iOS. The problem persists since release day of the AirPods.

I also had my own thread about this a few months ago, but cannot find it anymore 🤦🏼

I'm now convinced something is odd with the battery widget and the 2nd-gen. AirPods Pro after reading this post. I don't see the 0% "ghost" pod. But I see "zombie" pods and case staying in the widget even when the case lid is closed. They are always there. At first I wondered if it was a new feature and I contacted Apple support and asked if it was. They didn't know and are now investigating it.

Having exactly this issue with brand new pair of AirPods Pro 2 that I just bought!

Case and earbud battery status always showing up in battery widget and never goes away. Case is closed and both earbuds are in case. In addition, earbuds battery status always showing little lighting charging icon and never goes away, even after being fully charged.

So annoying and so disappointed by Apple’s quality right now. Please fix this bug ASAP!

I have done Factory reset my AirPods, power cycled phone and removed and re added the widget… issue still remains.
