The controller works otherwise, but for some reason, because MSNBC periodically requires a new sign-in, for some reason, when I got that screen and tried to sign in, my controller does not activate the “sign in” button.
I have deleted the app and re-loaded it, and it still does not work.
The controller works perfectly fine for all other purposes.
I had the same issue, but found out you can clear cache on your Apple TV apps. This worked for me: Open Settings on your Apple TV. Go to General > Manage Storage. Highlight the trash icon for the app you want to offload data for and press the Touch surface. Hope it helps.

Contact NBC for support on the use of their app.
funny; offloading fixed some apps; but others not. Yes try offloading a couple of times. Also try playing around inside the app with various settings and accounts. Also; say you have 3 NBC apps; you have to offload all of them.
Not sure why, but I actually had to try it a couple of times before it gave me a code. I also had other controllers and cleared them one by one. Sorry if it doesn't work for you!
