Safari - Do You Use It?

I'm still a fairly new user, please bear with me.

I have been trying to use Safari (because experienced Apple users recommended it and it saves battery life) but I think I'm done.

It seems like it has troubles with so many websites that it's becoming a workflow killer for me.

Lately - I can't download invoices from GoDaddy, because it doesn't even show them on GoDaddy website. I talked to Apple support, they didn't solve it so I use Chrome to do it.

Today I was hiring a freelancer on UpWork and couldn't hire him because the "hire freelancer" button was greyed out. Cleared cookies, history, nothing helped.

I finished the job on Chrome.

According to UpWork support, this is what Safari does.

Talking about Safari on Mac, I use it on iPhone as well without any issues.

Are you guys using Safari on Mac? Is there any reason to use it instead of Chrome (and yes, the battery efficiency is a big deal, I know, that's why I'm still using it)?

Recent studies indicate there are now over 1 billion Safari users on the planet. I have used Safari exclusively since its inception without any major issues on ALL of my Macs.

One of the reasons Safari is considered to be a secure browser is that it adheres strictly to W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) standards. Some of the other browsers are more tolerant of website coding errors to be more compatible. That makes them less secure in the grand scheme of things.

Chrome may work but it is ,after all, a Google product and Google’s reason for existence is to collect your personal data and sell it advertisers. I personally will never install Chrome. If I had to recommend another browser it would be Firefox.

But when all is said and done, you have to do what you have to do to get your work done. If that means using a different browser then so be it. Don’t use your personal experience to conclude every one is having the same issues with Safari. We are not and your issues can likely be resolved with troubleshooting.

I am a guy. Not everyone here is a guy. This guy uses Safari.

Google Chrome exists for the sole purpose of harvesting personal data so that they can sell it. It is a notorious resource hog whose behavior is as close to a "virus" as Macs will ever get. I prohibit its installation on any of my Macs.

Safari is specifically designed to protect your personal information and to make tracking activity difficult to exploit you as a product to package and sell to advertisers.

If you want to use a Chromium-based browser use Brave. It is essentially Chrome without Google's creepy stuff.

I agree with everything lkrupp already said.

In addition to Chrome being tougher on the battery, it's also a terrible memory hog. Yes, I do have it installed on my computer because it makes switching back and forth between work (Window) and home easier on the days I work from home. But, if I'm not working, I close it out.

I've been using Safari exclusively for personal use for years without issue. I applied for jobs, pay my bills, do my taxes without issue. But as lkrupp said, you need to do what works for you. If you're okay with the drawbacks to Chrome (both technical and ethical) you should continue to use it regardless of what anyone else says.

Another browser that gets recommended quite often here is Brave. I've never used it myself.
