Hello 7musers,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. To move data between two Mac computers, you'll need to an Ethernet or Thunderbolt cable. You can also connect them to the same wired or wireless network to transfer the data. That information is outlined here in this support article: Transfer your information to Mac from another computer or device - Apple Support

Before you begin, upgrade to the latest version of macOS on both Mac computers. Connect the two computers with a cable (such as Ethernet or Thunderbolt) or make sure they’re connected to the same wired or wireless network. See the Apple Support article Move your content to a new Mac.

This will ensure that your data is successfully transferred to your new Mac.

Kind regards.

Is there an advantage to using an Ethernet cable rather than the wireless connection?

I'm looking at migrating from an old Macbook Air to a new one. If using a cable is good, I could connect the old laptop to the router over an Ethernet cable. But I'd have to use wifi on the new laptop.

Does that sound ok, or should I just use wireless only?
