Do I need a cable to migrate data from one Mac to another?

Can one confirm that in order to migrate from an old mac to a new one, there is no need of a usb C or another physical device/connection between the 2 ? Thank you

A cable connection is always preferred compared to WIFI for moving large amounts of data...YMMV
