Can I upgrade an iPhone I was gifted with no receipt?

I was gifted an iPhone 14 pro and was wondering if I could upgrade it to the iPhone 14 pro max even though I don’t have a receipt? I understand I’d have to pay the difference, but that’s fine.

It sounds like you are looking to exchange versus upgrade (which usually refers to you trading in an old model for a new model). You may be asked to show proof of purchase to guarantee the phone is still within the exchange/return period. You may need to get the person that bought it involved or ask them for the receipt/confirmation email. Might be best to call the Apple Store you plan to visit to ask this so you won’t be wasting your time

Because the OP is saying they have an iPhone 14 Pro I knew this wasn’t a case of a trade-in since the device isn’t even a month old yet BUT when the buyer actually received it to gift (or the OP if it was sent directly them) determines if they would be able to exchange it at all. Not sure if they could do a true trade-in with a 14 yet since it’s so new…

This is why I should never participate when it’s close to my bedtime. I totally missed the phone models. I’d like to say it was just another senior moment, but I just blew it. Thanks for setting me straight.

And as far as I know, you are correct about trading in the 14. It’s too new. Apple doesn’t usually take models that new on a trade.
