Missing Album Artwork on iOS Devices after Syncing

Hi, there,

After I synced my music onto my phone yesterday morning (as usual), I noticed that iOS removed almost all album artwork on one of my devices.

I immediately checked if there were any problems with my macOS library. However, everything was normal.

I tried to remove the artwork of the affected albums and reput the artwork. However, those artworks still wouldn't be synced those artworks onto any of my iOS devices.

I insist that all artworks should be synced because of my OCD on my library and the gorgeous lock screen display that iOS 16 brought back for music. I wish that I could enjoy that lock screen like my old days in iOS 8. (really some good old days, you know

Therefore, any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hey there ripp3ify,

We agree that this is strange behavior, especially since the screenshots from your Mac still show the artwork on the same music you synced to your iPhone. We'd like to rule out some possible causes to this occurring:

  1. We see you have macOS 12.6 installed which is the latest for Mac. If you have a compatible iPhone model, the latest version is iOS 16.0.2. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. Here's a link that'll show how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Has a restart of both devices been tried, then synced again afterwards? Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone and check out the section 'Restart' here: Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac
  3. It sounded like you have more than just your iPhone that you sync with your Mac, but if this is correct, does the same issue occur on your other devices?
  4. Are you currently a subscriber of Apple Music, and if yes, did those songs originate from the Apple Music catalog? If you're not a subscriber of Apple Music, were the songs purchased from the iTunes Store?

Cheers.

Hi~

Thank you for replying.

My iPhone X was running iOS 16.0.2 when I screenshot it. Meanwhile, I have tried both 2 and 3. The same problem occurred.

I have tried to sync my library to my iPhone 7 (which runs iOS 15.7) and iPhone X, but that still happened. Therefore, I wonder if the problem lies with my Mac. However, the weird part is that my iPod classic didn't experience this issue.

As to 4, I am an Apple Music subscriber, but those songs were purchased from iTunes Store or imported from CDs as I prefer offline listening and customisation of my music library.

After losing artwork, I logged Apple Music out from my iPhone and Mac completely, had my iPhone reset as a new device, and deleted the artwork cache in my Mac completely. After I restarted the music app, I checked the artwork, track by track, to ensure that every song had its artwork attached.

However, I am still struggling with losing artwork in my library.

It is bizarre for me as I have never experienced this situation, and I'm not sure how long I have been syncing music since I've been doing this since iPhone 4.

Thank you.
