Screen display and touch issue on iPad Air 2

Hi, I’ve experienced the following screen related issues on my iPad Air 2 as of late and wonder if anyone may have any ideas on the prognosis and possible fixes.

Touch: I’ve been experiencing delay or unresponsive touch on the screen for some time now, and it’s been getting worse over the last few days.

Display: The colour on my iPad Air 2 suddenly changed last night (by itself) while I was using it, where for example things that are normally black are now light grey, red is now purple, blue is now purple, and apps where normally there is no transparency now has transparency. I did not make any changes in the setting such as accessibility. (See attached screen shots for example)

Any help is greatly appreciated. I’m not ready to buy a new device yet so am hoping to extent the life of this iPad Air 2 a bit longer. (Battery life has been poor as well but I can get around it by keeping it plugged in while I am using it).

Hi, asjen.

Due to what you've described, it seems like the iPad may have a physical issue with the display. To help fix display issues, let's try powering off your iPad and restarting. Although this sounds simplistic, it may resolve display issue by refreshing the settings and features on your iPad. Here's how to complete this step:

1. Press and hold the top button until the power off slider appears.
2. Drag the slider, then wait for 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the top button until you see the Apple logo.

This is from Restart your iPad - Apple Support.

After these steps, see how the display appears. If you continue to see the same result, verify there aren't any accessibility settings enabled for the display. This can change the tint, brightness, and other various settings. Use this steps below for guidance:

"Sometimes, inverting the colors or changing to grayscale on the iPad screen makes it easier to read.

Invert the screen colors. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility, then turn on Invert Colors.

See the screen in grayscale. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility, then turn on Grayscale."

Additional information about display settings in iPad iOS 9 is here: Invert Colors and Grayscale - iPad User Guide

You can also try updating the software on your iPad to iOS 15.7. Updating provides the latest bug fixes, security, and new features for your iPad. It can potentially fix display issues as well. Here's how to back up and update: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Cheers.
