Changing to English (United Kingdom) in settings worked instantly and fixed it. The Siri feature was not been working at all for several weeks prior and would give the "Something went wrong" error every time. This is for a new-gen SE.

Went to Settings -> Siri & Search -> Language -> English (United Kingdom)

Ok folks,

So as I've had a few replies recently to this topic that I'd update this thread now. Since IOS 18, it seems the Siri Engineers have left University and gone back to Kindergarten - and it seems they have managed to gain some common sense at last.

Siri is as not as totally dumb as it was and now works a lot better.

However I have to report that Siri still acts too quickly without listening to the request properly before acting.

In this example, 'mains' is the group name for 4 of the 6 power bank extension sockets on my Meross extension lead. So if I say: "Siri, turn off the mains in 55 minutes" sometimes Siri will just turn the mains off straight away. This is hugely annoying as it turns the receiver, the TV, the ROKU and the Sub off straight away when I'm in the middle of watching something!

It's another reason why I have my Router and the NAS on sockets 5 & 6 (and call this something different) so that even if Siri buggers it up and turns the mains off I'm not losing power for WiFi and worse, the NAS, causing a RAID check!

So I have to make sure the TV sound mute is on and speak clearly and quickly, so Siri hears the whole request properly before just turning the mains off!

But other than that:

1) Siri still has issues with some names that you give to your smart devices and doesn't understand them, so my advice is to use simple and distinctly different names for your smart devices.

2) Speak clearly and promptly without delays - or Siri jumps the gun.

3) Language settings that you have Siri set to may very well affect the algorithms that Siri uses to understand your own speech if you have a different accent to the language set in Siri! I have no evidence of this, but it seems logical that Siri may be adapted to understand say Australian English to American Southern accent English, to British Posh accents!

We can only hope that things keep improving and don't go backwards. 👀

I have had Siri "Something Went Wrong" issues for the last 2 years. Changing to British language from American and even changing sub-voices does sod-all.

My issue is with Homekit devices and I'm using iPod Mini as the Hub.

4 Meross smart plugs:

1 called TV

1 called Chair

1 called PC

1 called Telly (to distinguish between the first one called TV above)

If I use a simple command like "Siri, Chair off" it works and the same for "Siri chair on".

The issue are when you say something extremely complicated and hard to understand 🙄 like:

"Siri, turn the telly off in 20 minutes" !

Using any such time-based requests does not work.
