Is it necessary to update all the time?

I got a new macbook (m2 13 inch macbook pro)

I am on monterey 12.4

I honestly do not use the mac much but should i regularly update to the newest versions of macOS

Is it necessary, and also are there any big features that would help i am missing out on?

This is just an opinion question, but your feedback would be helpful

Thanks, MoronX

New features and bug fixes are secondary. It’s all about security fixes to prevent bad things from happening. Not much opinion about it. You should always keep your software update to date, especially macOS. macOS 12.6, for example, patched a zero day exploit that was being seen in the wild.
