Pop Up "Your computer is low on memory"

My Mac is continuing to pop up a "your computer is low on memory. Please close a few applications.

My computer has a lot of storage and I do not understand this. Is it a virus? It pops up like every 30 seconds. Please help. I tried to contact apple support but the connection was lost.

iMac 27″, macOS 11.6

The Mac storage is the amount of space you have on your iMac. The more storage you have, the more files, videos, photos, etc you will be able to save.


The memory has to do with macOS software, software, and processes running. The more memory you have, the more applications you can run at the same time.


You're getting a message about memory, which has to do with applications and processes running in the background. Since restarting has been known to help with software, restart by following the steps here: Shut down or restart your Mac.
