I have an iPhone 11pro fully updated. Dictation and siri voice search stopped working. When I tap the dictate icon, I get a little microphone icon with an x in it. I've tried everything I can find on the internet, but nothing has helped. Factory reset seems next unless anyone has any ideas?

I noticed my dictation stopped working on about 10/12/22 or so. I had tried disabling/re-enabling dictation, disabling/re-enabling Siri, powering down and up again over several days. I found this community post and the recommendation to upgrade to iOS16.0.3. I just upgraded to iOS 16.0.3, and my dictation appears to be working again! Thank you for the recommendation. It was incredibly painful to be out with it for a week.

They did it at the Apple store. We ensured we were backed up, reset, but didn't restore all of my apps. It worked, and now I have been adding back. It is a bit of a hassle, but I'm also seeing how many apps I rarely use.
Thank you for the reply. After doing everything I could find, including these recommendations, the problem still existed, so I went to the genius bar. All mechanicals were working fine. They ended up recommending and performing a reset. The problem went away. I am now gradually adding back in apps - a real pain, frankly - but dictation and SIRI are working.

Are you experiencing this behavior while being connected to Wi-Fi, cellular data, or both?
iOS 16.0.3 was released recently, so if you haven't updated yet, please back up your iPhone, and update. You can find the steps to back up, and update in the following link:

I just did the reset myself - had to completely erase the phone and then restore it from the backup. It worked! My microphone takes dictation again - yay!
Richard, did the Apple Genius people do the reset for you, or did you do it yourself? I had someone recommend this to me, and I was reluctant to try it. But if it worked for you...
I upgraded the iOS immediately, in hopes that it contained a fix. Didn't work for me.
