iPad Service & Repair - Apple Support

Be Advised, to expedite speedy and efficient customer service, most Apple Store locations DO NOT repair iPads, but ONLY offer in/out of warranty device replacement, in lieu of an actual device repair

If you own a iPad that has a purchased, paid, extended AppleCare+ warranty plan, a device replacement, in lieu of an actual deviice repair, will cost a $49 U.S.D. device replacement fee.

If no paid, extended AppleCare+ warranty OR expired warranty, then a device replacement will cost you approximately 60% of that iPad model’s original OEM price.

Perhaps.

How exactly would you define "broken"? Is the tablet's battery not working?

Getting a Swapout:

If found to be faulty, then Apple might decide to swap them out. But, that would be Apple's call. So, ask Apple Support upfront. These are User-to-User forums. No one here has any say in returns. But, you can always troubleshoot these yourself.
