IOS 16.02

Firstly, I highly recommend holding off on updating to IOS 16 as it is clear that it wasn't quite ready! I have an iPhone 13 and have unfortunately upgraded to IOS 16.02 and apart from seeing a noticeable faster drain on my battery, the photos app keeps on freezing as soon as I try and click on anything.

Is there a way to fix this other than wait for IOS 16.03?

Hello Aussie_B,

iOS 16.0.3 has been released recently. So let's use the steps below to get your iPhone 13 updated:

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. Choose the software update that you want to install. You can choose to stay on iOS or iPadOS 15 and still get important security updates. Or you can choose the option to upgrade to iOS or iPadOS 16.
The Settings app on iPhone showing options to update to iOS 15.7 or iOS 16.

5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

You can also find those steps in this resource: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support Updating should help to further isolate any potential software conflicts.

Should that still persist, does force closing the Photos app have any impact on that behavior, even if only temporarily? Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support
