How do i see Homekit secure video recordings when camera is stolen or offline?

I’ve seen this question posted a number of times but never with a solution.

A simple question I would have thought. if my camera is stolen, how do I view the footage of the person steeling it.

All the answers I have seen for accessing the recorded footage assume the accessory is still available. But if it’s offline, broken or stolen, it seems there is no way to access the footage even though it is stored in my iCloud accounts storage.

Hi leahk,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We sorry to hear that your camera was stolen. We'd like to know more so we can help.

What type of camera were you using? Was this set up to save your videos and, if so, have you had issues with recalling the videos in the past? What happens when you try to view the video? Does it show any error messages?

This resource should help you view those videos on your Home device. Set up security cameras in Home on iPhone - Apple Support

View video

1. On the Home tab, tap the camera tile.
Live video should play automatically.
2. If you’ve chosen to record video with your HomeKit Secure Video camera, swipe through the timeline at the bottom of the screen to browse recorded clips.
3. Tap a clip to play it.
4. Tap Live to switch back to live video.

When you set up the camera to detect specific motion, the timeline displays unique symbols for people, animals, vehicles, and packages.

You can also view live and recorded video in the Home app on your Mac with macOS 10.15.1 or later.

Let us know if that helps.

Take care!
