iOS 16 issues with camera

Anyone else having issues with the camera post iOS 16 update? I have an iPhone 13 pro max and noticed after I updated, my camera quality got significantly worse. Pictures look blurry and low resolution, and I've tried everything from resetting the phone to downloading third party camera apps. Both front and back cameras just took a massive hit in quality. Even worse is I updated to 16.0.2 and somehow the quality got even worse. I'm wondering if anyone has the same issue and was able to fix it?

This might be the error that makes me go back to Samsung. My IPhone 12 Pro was great until the recent 16.xx upgrade. Now my camera jitters and you can hear the shutter going crazy at 1 or 2x. .5 is ok. My videos are the same and no updates or answers from Apple.

So, many of you suggested I go to an Apple Service Center, which was good advice but difficult for me to get to as I live in rural Thailand.

I finally did get to one. The did all the checks on the phone running a diagnostic routine. They indicated my camera stabilizer is broken. They then asked me if I attach it to the handlebars of a motorcycle. I said yes. They indicated that the vibrations from the engine and road most likely broke it.

$300 to replace the camera. I kindly declined as the whole phone is only worth $400 to $450. I also commented that I need the phone on my motorcycle for gps maps and have had many phones on my motorcycles over the years. Why would I pay to have the camera replaced only to have it break again. Apple hasn’t upgraded the camera stabilizer to handle vibrations.

So I guess my next phone is back to Samsung. I would suggest all motorcycle riders to dump Apple as they know the issue having a weak stabilizer and won’t replace the camera for free. It’s their issue, they even show this issue on their support page. Do the right thing Apple, build a stronger camera. My camera didn’t get any major jolts, just normal vibrations from the motorcycle.

Well, that was short lived journey with Apple phones. Back to Samsung

No, it wasn't due to a "weak stabilizer," it is not a recommended use of the phone; this warning was first published September 10, 2021 (and has been updated since):

Exposure to vibrations, like those generated by high-powered motorcycle engines, might impact iPhone cameras - Apple Support

Google and Samsung have not published similar warnings, but such damage can occur on any device that uses Optical Image Stabilization systems.

Indeed, vibration dampener manufacturer QuadLock states:

The Quad Lock Vibration Dampener has been created in response to the increased sensitivity of new smartphone camera's image stabilisation modules and the impact that some motorcycle engine's have on these modules.

Were it just iPhones, they wouldn't hesitate to say so.

I have upgraded to iOS 16.3 but the camera issue become worse now. After the update I see lots of vertical lines when I use rear camera but I don't see any line when I use the front camera. Also I did not see any improvement in the camera clarity after updating it to iOS 16.3.

So I have visited the Apple Service without any further delay. They mentioned that they might replace the camera if there is an issued it with the camera. As per them it is not software issue.

If they replace the camera I am little worried what will happen in the future when the phone is out of warranty.

Please provide your inputs on this.

Thanks

I had been to apple service to check the device again. They checked and confirmed that there is nothing wrong with the front camera. They also confirmed that they have replaced only the rear camera front camera is untouched but I get blurry pics when I take from from front camera. They are not agreed to it, they are saying it is because of low light. But I am surprised how can iPhone 13 pro pics from front camera is not even equal to the iphone 6.

They did not accept my complain and they have returned the phone back. What shall I do to to prove them that there is something really wrong with the camera. Please suggest!

Yes I’m in this boat too I took the phone back to Apple Store and they wouldn’t replace the handset and just replaced the camera under warranty and also sent it via mail in second time and they couldn’t find anything wrong with it so it is still an ongoing case with my phone it was all working brillant until ios16 screwed my camera up BIG time and when doing videos when zoomed in it jiggery too not happy I already gave in my consumer laws right and they won’t do anything about it cos the camera hardware isn’t failed and system diagnostics in the phone saying it’s all working fine no issues. So yesterday I plugged my iPhone into my iMac and did an update from that and gonna keep an eye on it in the next few days to see if that improves anything. I also have 2 iPads and no issues with camera on ios16 no jiggers at all everything all in focus!

My brand new iPhone SE (3rd gen) camera and flashlight stopped working when I upgraded to the latest iOS 16. This seems like a software issue as the phone has not been dropped. And it seems like it’s not consistent across models. My husband’s brand new iPhone 13 is not having any issue on the latest iOS. Hope Apple is able to figure out what is causing this problem. Soon!
