Hey there steve-o2014,
Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. To get started, since the issue started have you tried restarting your iPhone to see if that's able to help with the issue? If not, give that a try with the steps below: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support
How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, or later
1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.
While restarting may seem like a simple step, it can often help with resolving some unexpected issues like this. If still having issues with Safari not responding after trying to tap a number to place a call, give the steps in this next resource a try: If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support
1. Close and reopen the app
Force the app to close. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.
2. Restart your device
Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.
3. Check for updates
To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your iPhone or iPad.
If you continue to have issues after the steps above, does this only occur when selecting numbers in a Google search? If unsure, we'd recommend testing the issue on a few more websites to isolate the issue further. Also if possible, do you by chance have another web browser app installed on your iPhone that you could use to test the issue?
Keep us updated on the results, and we'll continue from there.
Take care!
