Reduce file size jpg

For many photos, the file size is 2 - 7 MB. For sending 10 photos by mail to explain something, 250 Kb is large enough. We select the photos, open in preview, select all, export, choose lower resolution, and then all photos are resized with new name.

With old macos this worked, but not anymore. Need photo by photo

Why is there two ways to export a photo? Hi. I wasn't sure how to phrase the question, but... In my Mac Photos, I can drag a photo on to my desktop. Fine. Then I tried to File/Export the same photo in full size onto my desktop. Both pictures appear now. But the photos are different when I click the info on each: The first is less than half the file size (ie 2.1 MB) and is titled '.jpeg' The second has a bigger file size (ie 5MB) and is titled '.jpg' Both are the same resolution (ie 4032 x 3024) and 72 pixels/inch. No big crisis, but why does it happen like this? Is there a useful reason? I've tried the same thing on different photos. Thanks!

Preview Export Selected Images only compresses first selected photo Hi all. I've been a Mac user for years and have used this technique many times. We have four kids, so we have a lot of photos. I normally use preview to open a large batch of photos and then export them in a smaller size, about 1/3 of the original size, using the Export Selected Images function of Preview. This happens sporadically as I'm usually waiting for my wife to send the photos from her iPhone. When I open multiple photos in preview, select them all, and then export selected images, Preview appears to work its magic as usual. The photos are all exported into the chosen folder. But when I check the files, only the first photo is smaller and the rest of them are the original size. They all export, but only the first photo compresses. This happens on both my MacBook Pro and her MacBook running up-to-date macOS Monterey. Has anyone else encountered this issue? I prefer using the Preview method to compress images because it gives me more control with the quality slider, but the method is unusable if it will only compress one photo at a time.
