HandsFree Link stopped working for phone calls

All of a sudden, the HandsFree Link on my Honda Accord 2020 stopped working for both incoming and outgoing phone calls on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I can see a call coming in on the car's display, but I cannot hear the caller and they cannot hear me. I have to switch from the HandsFree to either iPhone or speaker on the phone itself, which I usually can't do because I'm driving. The bluetooth connection is working fine as I can play podcasts and music on the car's speakers from my phone. I have tried resetting both the phone and the HandsFree, removing the devices from both, and reconnecting the phone, but nothing works. Is it possible this started after the last update on the phone (v. 15.7)???? Help. This is really annoying.

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with calls using CarPlay. Have you tried restarting your iPhone? This simple step resolves a multitude of issues: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

"How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, or later

Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.

Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.

To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo."

If that doesn't resolve the issue, does your iPhone need updating to iOS 16.0.3? Do you have a recent backup for the data in your iPhone in iCloud or your computer? If not, we recommend that you create one as described here: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Then update your iOS as outlined here: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Thank you for responding, BUT, I have done everything you suggested, including updating to v.16.0.3, and it still doesn't work for either my iPhone 12 Pro Max or my husband's iPhone 11. It appears to be an issue with iPhones connecting to HandsFreeLink, all of a sudden, probably due to a recent update which hasn't been resolved. Not sure whether to take it to the Honda dealer or the Apple store. In the meantime, I'm resorting to using Apple Play in my car.

Yes, everything works fine with CarPlay, but I need to have my phone connected via cable instead of it working with bluetooth. No biggie, but I WILL take the car to Honda to see if HandsFreeLink needs updating. Thanks for that advice.
