Group messages replies don't get to my iPhone

When I send a group message to my son and daughter-in-law, their replies come only to my wife, who is not on the text message. If my wife is added to the text, then everything works as it should. Thoughts?

Hey there DrBobJr,

That's a good thing you each now have and use your own Apple ID accounts. We'd like to rule out some more possible causes to this occurring on both your own iPhone and your wife's iPhone, along with any other devices each of you use:

  1. To confirm, are each of your devices signed into your own Apple ID within the Messages settings? In particular, you'll want to check under Settings > Messages > Send & Receive.
  2. We also wanted to provide a link that'll help with making sure your and your wife's devices are signed into each of your own Apple ID accounts not just in Messages, but a few other locations listed here: Sign in with your Apple ID
  3. Regarding your own iPhone 12 mini, we see that you're using iOS 15, but the latest version is iOS 16.0.3. Here's a link that'll show how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.
  4. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
  5. Have you ever shared your Apple ID with not just your wife's devices, but also any other people?

Cheers.

Hey DrBobJr,

It sounds like it may be an issue related to a shared Apple ID. Did you or do you share an Apple ID with your wife or did you swap iPhones or SIM cards? Anything like that could cause issues.

This resource has details on Apple ID sharing and the benefits of each person using their own un unique Apple ID: Make sure that each family member has a unique Apple ID - Apple Support

Each of you can check to see if you have the right Apple ID and phone number in iMessage Settings: Send and receive messages on iPhone - Apple Support

Take care.
