By 'I am reversing out a line' I'm assuming you mean that you:

  • clicked at the end of a piece of text to place the insertion point at that location
  • started pressing the delete (backspace) key, intending to delete the text in that line.

and the whole line of text (or more) disappeared.

If that description is accurate, these questions:

  • Was all or any of the text that disappeared highlighted like this example?

  • If so, when?
  • Was 'all' of a line or a few lines or many lines highlighted as above (possibly in a different colour?
  • If so, when.

How did the text you were deleting get onto the page?

  • You put it there by typing.
  • You put it there by copying from another source, then pasting it onto this page.
  • t was there when you opened the document from a template.
  • other.

I suspect the text that disappeared was there when you opened the new document, and was 'placeholder text', text that was in tended to show the apppearance of text placing in the context of the document you would be creating, and, in some cases, to provide a sample of the type of text (eg. a name or an address) expected a a certain location in the page. Placeholder text is designed to disappear as soon as the user starts typing in the space it occupies.

Barry
