I cannot voice dictate and I get a mic symbol with an x on it when I press the mic icon on imessage. Cannot voice dictate in other places such as in notes or to do a browser search. My mic does work because people can hear me on a call.

Strange you mention that, I finally got some results with Siri by faking a poor British accent! :)
Exactly same issues I am experiencing as well. No speech to text capability and Siri is malfunctioning. Sometimes Siri doesn’t respond. Sometimes Siri responds “one sec… still on it” then nothing.
Have not found a difference between Canadian English and American English Siri with regard to dictation. In fact i dictated this. So. Sorrey, I don’t know what this aboout.
Does it create a period if you say “full-stop”?

I purchased a IPhone SE and the voice dictation just stopped a few weeks ago. I've tried all the above suggestions to fix to no avail.....very frustrating
Out of the blue I have a X on the mic image and can’t dictate texts. IPhone 12 Pro Max
This glitch is still occurring and 16.1.2. Get it together Apple. This has gone on for over a month which is utter b.s. We pay enough money for your products to not waste time troubleshooting!

Same problem. Google dictation works but microphone on messages has an c. I have enabled dictation and restarted a dozen times.
This doesn't work for me - my microphone says allow under content & privacy. I shut my phone off and on and it still didn't work.
