How do I access old messages saved on iCloud?

my icloud storage says it is full- mainly from messages... I am trying to see what messages are saved on there so I can delete ones that I don't need / certain text threads from certain people that i no longer need.... is this possible? or is it an all or nothing situation (turn off icloud message and lose everything?) What is the point of backing up my messages if I have no way of accessing them?

Thanks for reaching out gabsalot162,

We know it's important to be able to clear up space. However, you won’t be able to view your messages in iCloud.

From Use Messages in iCloud - Apple Support

For your privacy, Messages in iCloud is end-to-end encrypted, which means you can't view or access Messages online via browser.

One thing you can do is delete any attachments that others have sent via Messages: Use Messages on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support If you want to keep any, you can save them first before you delete them.

Take care.
