How to turn off Strong Password Suggestions on iPhone

I've read through several forums but haven't found a straight answer. I like the way Safari auto fills my passwords whenever I'm visiting a known site. But I do not like the "strong Password suggestion" is there a way to remove the suggestion option? I'd hate to stop using Safari for this issue, not only is it time consuming when you're in a rush but also it'll tend to make my iPhone lag whenever I'm selecting from the options. (iPhone 14 Pro Max too) I know it might be an iOS 16 glitch but still, I need this to be an option. Stop forcing us to use features we do not wish, make them options please.

What a pain in the *** strong password is when signing up. I should be able to choose a password without my iPhone taking over whether I have auto fill turned on or off. iPhone shouldn’t try to auto fill when creating a brand new sign. It’s a dumb smart phone. Leave it to apple to break something that didn’t need to be improved.

I disagree. It does not always work as intended. I frequent many accounts that get confused as they have extra layers of security on their own site and Apple insists on populating new passwords even though I already have one autofilled and it overrides it. I have to use CHROME to stop this behavior. I want Autofill and want it to ask (it used to work). I do not need it to automatically advise what Apple thinks I should use or to change what I'm using. And what do you do with an elderly person who needs autofill only to have it suggest a new one and they don't know how to override? Again it does not work as intended unless the intent is to aggravate customers and have them use Chrome.

i agree with you khimi. i just submitted Safari Feedback about the matter, requesting they make it a user option to default whichever way one prefers.

i wish Apple had a better method of user suggested feature enhancements for software it already offers like some other companies do, by allowing the user community to vote up or down on them.

I wish I knew the answer I just wanted to chime in and agree that it is SO ANNOYING to have to click out of the strong password suggestion a million times. It is so obvious they are trying to force you to depend on apples strong passwords so that you have to stay with Apple and it is having the opposite effect- I’m ready to leave completely

I also wish disable the feature. I gave it a go, it’s a good idea in theory, but in practice it’s actually just a nuisance. Three different times when I used the feature the suggested password was not saved to my keychain. I’ve had this issue when I create the password myself. Through ten years of using iPhones, Safari never once failed to add my website registration details to the keychain until I used the ‘suggested’ feature.

“Simple work around. Go to your iCloud the Passwords and Keychain and turn that off. Take care of your business and go back and turn it back on.”

even more "simple" would be for Apple to give users the option to not prompt for a suggested password when there are obviously many users who would prefer to always use their own passwords. this kind of feature used to be called a "Preference", while now it seems Apple has called it a "Setting". regardless what one calls it, this would seem to be the remedy to the problem.

We really need this feature where it can be disabled. I want to enjoy everything else, but a recommend password I’m never going to use. Trying to fill in stuff on a website and the company code box keeps erasing the prefilled code with a lovely 64 character password. This is just so handy right now I couldn’t imagine ever using it when it’s already annoying and I’ve never used it.

i remain unconvinced that the Apple execs care about what Apple users desire or need. but yes, i personally always attempt to do so. in fact, i did so (again?) just now.

thing is, IF Apple really cared about its user base, it would implement a vote up/down construct for its users, as some other software companies do. i bet this issue of merely & simply allowing a preference/setting for users to turn the AutoSuggest OFF would be voted up greatly.

also notice how Apple only really makes it easy to give feedback about current products, but not for greatly needed products (like a "Paint" for the 21st century... you know, like MS Windows offers its users, and like Apple initially offered its users when Jobs ran the company).

Historically, Apple has appeared to operate on the assumption that they know better than users what users need. Based on their success, they may not be incorrect. They definitely have not been big on giving huge numbers of options as that does tend to make for a more cluttered, more confusing interface.

Some people like the way Apple does things. Some people don't. That's why there's Android, and Windows and Linux, et al.

well, when your competition is Windows, the bar is greatly minimized. ;-) regardless of opinions, it appears on this issue the users know best. no doubt most don't even bother to suggest a remedy, they just perform the extra clicks like most of us do.

shall we somehow take a poll as to whether or not most Apple Macintosh users would prefer having a Paint app? because i recall seeing many posts in the past asking why it doesn't while MS Windows does. is there a method of doing such a poll? i'm just curious... perhaps there is a way...?

so then, since such constructs for user feedback are prohibited here and not offered officially, it does appear as though my previous supposition may be correct, in that Apple could care more about its user base. 😉

thankfully, many here have posted in Safari feedback regarding the option for turning off the password suggestion feature. it would be wonderful if we could view all the suggestions & even vote on them. other than emailing the CEO, if you know of a method for the user base to make such a suggestion, please let us know if there is a best way of doing so. thank you! ♾️😎

Apple provides the Feedback page, the link to which I have already posted. Viewing and voting on other people's suggestions is not a feature that is offered.

Same problem here. I don't want Apple making my passwords and I don't want all my passwords captive to Apple such that the only way I can login to anything is to use my iphone. No iphone/no apple no login to anything! This is apple's nefarious way to take over your life by trying to own all your passwords, like trying to own all your house and work keys.

You can, through multiple clicks go the bottom and beg/select safari to allow you to define you own password. They made it painful so you would be coerced to let apple own all your passwords. There does not appear to be away to turn this off without breaking more functionality. It's a nefarious feature for Apple to force their way into your life.

I think you may have missed the point. People are saying that they do not want the suggestion. When someone is given something that they don't want over something they do want, it is irritating for them to keep going through a process every single time, rather than simply avoiding the process. When you are getting your coffee in the morning, and they automatically put milk in it without asking, would you accept the answer "what's the problem? The system works as it is. Just remember to tell them you don't want milk, so they dump it and make you a new one"?
