cant change album cover art

Most album cover art on my windows laptop is messed up in iTunes. I tried changing it but it doesn’t change anything? I even tried resetting the application but it doesn’t show up. Does it need to be a specific type? Like .jpeg or png? I can’t seem to get it to work properly
