Cmd-Shift-4 no longer taking screenshot to desktop on Monterey

I don't want it saved to a file. I want it to remain on my desktop. I used this function all the time. How do I get it back?

Do you have a MacBook Pro with a Touch Bar?

If so, check the Touch Bar after you press Cmd-Shift-4. You'll see options for where to save the screenshot. It may say 'Desktop', 'Documents', 'Clipboard', or something completely different.

Just tap the Touch Bar to choose a different location if it's set to anything other than 'Desktop'.

The setting will be saved for subsequent screenshots, and it's possible you changed it inadvertently on a previous screen shot.
