Watch incompatible with carrier service

I bought my Watch Series 8 using Apple Card. When I went to Verizon to activate the watch, I was told that my watch was incompatible with Verizon service. It's an unlocked phone so I don't know how I get past this barrier to activation. I was at Verizon store nearly 2 hours trying to get this issues resolved. Should I send the watch back and request a Verizon specific version?

There is no such thing as a Verizon specific Apple Watch. Did you purchase the watch in the US from Apple? Apple doesn't sell locked watches. If however, you bought the watch in the US and you live anywhere other than the US, Canada, Mexico or Puerto Rico, then the watch will not work on cellular networks outside those locations.
