AppleTv no Atmos out to Denon AVR (x3800h)

The AppleTV used to work fine on my Pioneer Receiver for Atmos sound. Got a new receiver, Denon avr-x3800h, and while I'm getting great Atmos from my Blu-ray player the best I can do is get 5.1 sound from other sources (Netflix and Amazon Prime for example). Under settings-audio my only choices are auto and 5.1. When 5.1 is chosen then my options are stereo and 5.1.

This has got to be an easy fix and the obvious stuff is covered. The AppleTV is not recognizing the Denon as being Atmos enabled would be my guess. o, any Apple gurus out there know what exactly it is I need to change on my receiver?

It was the cable.

Just purchased a new 8K cable to specifically avoid this kind of stuff. Plugged in an old cable, thick as a snake, and it worked fine. Although now I have seen that video format on AppleTV has an option for Dolby Vision which I have not seen. Probably cable issue as well.

To be fair, this is a relatively long run at 13 feet and I have read this is not an uncommon concern.

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities Tiberius Spock,

We can certainly understand your concern and can help provide some insight.

We recommend checking out these steps for more information on what to do if you have issues with your Apple TV and stereo system.

" If your Apple TV is connected to a home theater receiver or TV using an HDMI cable, you may experience audio latency, a delay that sounds like an echo when playing audio on both receiver speakers and a wireless speaker.

You can use an iPhone to calibrate the audio signal on your Apple TV so that all speakers play in sync.

  1. Open Settings  on Apple TV.
  2. Go to Video and Audio, then scroll down to Calibration.
  3. Select Wireless Audio Sync, then follow the onscreen instructions for using your iPhone to sync your speakers.

For more information, see Adjust video and audio settings on Apple TV. "
