Battery replacement price?

I went to an Apple store today in a mall and asked a staff there the price of changing a battery without AppleCare. He said it was 300, but I’ve heard from the prior time I’ve been there that it was around 89, and the Apple website said it was 69 without Applecare. I know that AppleCare provides free replacement when a battery falls below 80, but I do not have the service and I’m fine with it. I will pay the full price for the replacement, but the differing prices makes me confused. Im aware the website also states that the price varies depending on location, but I refuse to believe that the price would drastically rise as the last time was the prior year as stated by the current day this inquiry of mine is posted.

May I have an answer regarding the actual price range? I have gotten varying answers that only further confuses me. Is it due to demand that Apple charges more due to scarcity of lithium ion batteries or materials in them they use or the covid 19 pandemic being an issue? I do not believe it is 300 but can someone clarify or can reinforce this?

The staffer was incorrect.

If no other work needs to be done, battery replacement for an XR should be $69.

However, note that if there is other physical damage to your phone, such as a broken screen or back glass, those repairs will need to be performed first before Apple will service your battery.

Are you in the US? Is this for the iPhone XR? Was this an actual Apple Store or authorized Apple repair facility? Sounds like maybe they were going to just charge you for an out of warranty replacement device versus battery replacement but unsure. Or it could have not been an actual Apple Store so they set their own price versus what Apple charges directly. iPhone Battery Repair & Replacement - Apple Support

You can always call Apple and ask just to get some more concrete clarity

this is an actual Apple store in the US. It is just the battery replacement I am looking for. Staff member told me that the replacement was 300 out of warranty without Applecare and when I told him of the price being 69 he said that it was with AppleCare when I checked on the site itself that the site said with AppleCare the replacement was free. I think he either lied to me or didn’t know. This was the same with the last time I went to the store another staff member said it was around 89. I think I’m going to have to file a complaint with Apple support if 69 is the actual price value.

My device an iPhone XR and is working perfectly fine. Thank you for the answer.
