Ipad doesn’t list new printer

Hi - I just purchased a new Epson XP2205 wireless printer. I have connected it to my laptop and everything is fine. Both my iPad and the new printer are linked to the same wi-fi network, but the printer doesn’t show on my iPad. Help please…..

Hi,

As David McKinlay mentioned, the XP-2205 does not appear to be an AirPrint model.

However, the XP-2205 is on a list of models supported by the Epson Smart Panel.

I am not familiar with this app, but you could perhaps check what it can do.

Hi David - I tapped into Epson support and it seems that I can use my iPad/iPhone to use the printer, if I use the Epson Smart Panel App. But there are still issues in that it won’t recognise emails.

I guess the best way to select a printer in future is to check with Apple to see which printers they will support.

thanks for your input, it is much appreciated.

Mike

My printer previous to my current Canon was an Epson. It worked well until it carked it, but one of the things I set up when I bought it was an App called Epson Print, similar to Epson Smart Panel, which Jan recommended for you. Epson Print isn't compatible with your model, but I used it occasionally to print from my Mac over the internet, so you don't have to be at home in your own network (it also works with an iOS device). I'm guessing that Smart Panel works the same way and if it does you should find it satisfactory.

Another couple of options are described in this article at the LifeWire website including a network shared printer - if you have a computer.

Do you mean that your printer isn't displaying on your iPad when you try to print with AirPrint?

It makes sense because this older Epson printer is not in Apple's list of AirPrint devices.

The XP2205 seems to have been released at the time of macOS Snow Leopard 10.6 (2009) and without the AirPrint capability.

the XP 2205 is supposed to be a new model from Epson.

An interesting pickup Mike. It does seem to be from this year, if the XP 2200 series manual is any guide to this. The manual has a copyright date of 2022, although this in itself can change with reissues of the document. It's curious that Epson provide drivers for a thirteen year old macOS. Naturally I counted forward from that rather than backwards from now. Perhaps they are used to Windows users who never get around to a new OS 😉

Apple trains us to expect that new hardware can't use old software. Epson clearly didn't get the memo.
