Wrong red badge count on Messages

Hello,

Ever since I upgraded to Monterey on my MacBook Air, I have had a red badge count of "2" on my Messages. It does not exist on any of my other Apple devices (iPhone, iPad), and there are no messages that are unread. I have tried the "killall" command, and I have also scrolled through all messages individually using control-tab, but nothing removes the count.

It's driving me a bit batty since my eyes constantly go to the red badge while working. Does anyone know how to remove the incorrect Messages count? Thank you!
