When I try to upload songs to my iPod Nano (1st Gen) it uploads it as a 0 second sound.
I download the songs from a 3rd party site and drag it to iTunes page of my iPod. There is no problems with the download part, I turned it into a m4a file, no results.
Add content to your iTunes library first and make sure that it works correctly. There have been issues for some time with YouTube conversion tools. Once the content works in your library you can add it to your device. See Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using your computer - Apple Support.
