External Mic not working?

So I just recently bought an external mic and it has a usb-c connector. I plugged it directly into my ipad and tried a test on the voice memo app. Apparently no sound was picked up, but the control center recognizes that there is indeed an output that audio is coming out of (audio can come out of the microphone if there is a microphone directly plugged into it). I've tried to look up some tutorials to see if they would help but they all mention dongles and other adapters, which I'm not sure is even necessary because it is a usb-c. If it doesn't work that is completely fine, I can always use a different device to do recordings, but one of the reasons I got this mic was because of its potiental compatibility with my ipad.
