Dictation hasn't worked since the last iphone update

Hello,

I used dictation, or "voice to text" very often prior to the recent big iphone update. Ever since the update, dictation has not worked at all (not on iMessage, Whatsapp, apps like Duolingo, etc).

To respond to the obvious question, yes my dictation is enabled in settings.

I checked and saw another update available today. The description said that it was to fix bugs, so I was hopeful that this would be resolved, but nope. I currently have iOS 16.0.3 running on my iphone Xr.

I tried that link, there does not seem to be a category for the issue I'm having. After typing in the "tell us in your own words" field, the system doesn't allow me to move forward.

There's no issue with the hardware, my microphone is fine and I can speak on the phone and leave voice notes, there is a bug with the last two updates that has caused my dictation to no longer work. The "x" over my microphone when trying to do voice to text started appearing after the big update to iOS 16.

Can anyone help here? How can I get rid of this x?
