Corrupted Photos (Gray Bar) When Transferring to PC

When I transfer photos from my iPhone to my PC (Windows 10) in HEIC/V with the Keep Originals setting, the enhanced images have the lower portion of the photo grayed out to varying degrees. The photos are not corrupted on my phone before transferring. I have tried importing photos using all the methods (Windows File Explorer, Photos App, etc), and this issue persists. I do not use (nor do I want to use) a paid iCloud subscription to transfer photos so that won't work for a solution. Please advise.

Thank you, J_Johnnyboy. I have tried all of the steps and visited the links you recommend, and still the problem persists, namely the enhanced photos are corrupted with a gray bar at varying heights when viewed on my PC after transferring. I believe this a known issue as I have seen others post in the community without any resolution. I would greatly appreciate additional advice.

Hi T1DMama,

Try the steps here: Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or PC - Apple Support

Once you click and open the link, please read through and complete the steps in the section titled "Import to your Windows PC."

You can import photos to your PC by connecting your device to your computer and using the Windows Photos app:

1) Update to the latest version of iTunes on your PC. Importing photos to your PC requires iTunes 12.5.1 or later.

2) Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your PC with a USB cable.

3) If asked, unlock your iOS or iPadOS device using your passcode.

4) If you see a prompt on your iOS or iPadOS device asking you to Trust This Computer, tap Trust or Allow to continue.

Then, visit Microsoft's website to learn how to import photos to the Windows Photos app in Windows 10.

If you have iCloud Photos turned on, you need to download the original, full resolution versions of your photos to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch before you import to your PC.

When you import videos from your iOS or iPadOS device to your PC, some might be rotated incorrectly in the Windows Photos app. You can add these videos to iTunes to play them in the correct orientation.

If you want to ensure photos from your iOS or iPadOS device have the best compatibility with Windows 10, try these steps:

1) On your iOS or iPadOS device, open the Settings app.

2) Tap Camera, then tap Formats.

3) Tap Most Compatible. From now on, your camera will create photos and videos in JPEG and H.264 formats.

We recommend the steps above because they will show you how to transfer photos from your iPhone to your PC.

Hi T1DMama,

Did you also have a chance to try the last steps in the article we posted? It shows for Windows 10 to use "Most Compatible". Here they are again:

If you want to ensure photos from your iOS or iPadOS device have the best compatibility with Windows 10, try these steps:

1. On your iOS or iPadOS device, open the Settings app.

2. Tap Camera, then tap Formats.

3. Tap Most Compatible. From now on, your camera will create photos and videos in JPEG and H.264 formats.

Are you still seeing the gray band after using "Most Compatible". If so, we'd advise to contact Microsoft.

Take care!
