Apple’s Private Relay compatibility with active third party VPN

Is Apple’s Private Relay compatible with an active third party VPN? Are VPNs redundant or complimentary with Apple Relay? Is there any non-techie Apple documentation for Private Relay that goes beyond some high level explanation? Thanks!

If you already have a VPN, why use iCloud Private Relay?

I wouldn't recommend trying to run both together. It might work, but if it doesn't, then nobody cares. Apple isn't going to support that usage, nor will your VPN provider.

Apple never provides the kind of documentation you are asking about.
