New iPhone being Restored from iCloud Backup in iTunes

Backup is not complete after 3 days.

Where can I check "progress" of this backup?

(Note: seeing this message in iTunes when plugged in via USB. iTunes is not seeing new phone via wi-fi. I even changed Win. 10 network to same wi-fi iPhone is using; no difference. In iTunes Preferences, new iPhone is not showing up as a Device.)

How do I get this restoration to complete ASAP?

Thanks.

Hi spddemun,

It seems you're trying to restore a backup on your iPhone and we can help.

iTunes doesn't restore iCloud backups. So, if you're seeing an iCloud backup is being restored, you would see that on your iPhone screen regardless off connection to iTunes.

To be clear, you can connect to iTunes and restore an iTunes backup. The backup progress will show on the iTunes screen itself:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

It's not normal for this to take several days, so if that's what you're seeing we recommend you restart all of the devices involved and try again.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

Hello spddemun,

Got it. The setting you describe for cellular data would apply to backing up, but for restoring, it sounds like the text below will explain what's happening and your next steps. Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup:

Stay connected to Wi-Fi and wait for a progress bar to appear and complete. Depending on the size of the backup and the network speed, the progress bar might need a few minutes to an hour to complete. If you disconnect from Wi-Fi too soon, the progress will pause until you reconnect.

Based on this, we recommend attempting to connect to your Wi-Fi network when you're next able to, and connect to power as well. Once you're back on Wi-Fi, the restore should continue as mentioned in the text above.

Cheers.

spddemun,

Thanks for following up with. You mentioned you started restoring using the Wi-Fi at the Apple Store and saw the same message. Has your iPhone remained connected to both Wi-Fi and a power supply? The amount of time needed to restore a backup can vary depending on network speed and the amount of data being restored. If you remain connected and check the progress again, does it seem to be moving? Let us know.

Take care.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I think I worded it wrong.

I went into an Apple store yesterday & thought it was fixed, but it has been stuck, again, with the same message since Sat., Oct. 15th—got the new phone on Fri., Oct. 14th.

This is message on new iPhone 13:

”Restore in Progress. An estimated 100 MB will be downloaded to finish restoring your apps and data.”

Here is what I’m seeing on my old iPhone 6S+ (from its iCloud back up):

”Ready for your new iPhone. Your data is ready to be moved to your new iPhone, but some apps aren’t included. You can change this in iCloud settings. Your free iCloud storage will expire in XX days.”

It appears to be hung up somewhere, but I don’t know how to find it.

At the Apple store, they reset my new phone & started over—it was going over their store wi-fi, but same messages (as I was seeing at home, iTunes & just my fiber wi-fi alone, no diff.

Please help!

It is still stuck at 100 MB. I have been away from home and using only 5G (I don’t use public wi-fi).

A message did pop up yesterday & asked if I’d like to use 5G to finish, I approved. Maybe that has messed things up?

In iCloud backup on new phone, it has “Back Up Over Cellular” selected, & I cannot unselect it.

”When not connected to Wi-Fi use your cellular network to automatically back up to iCloud this may cause you to exceed your cellular data plan.”

—If I’m understanding correctly, that statement has nothing to do with current backup new phone is trying to retrieve from old phone files?

“Stop Restoring iPhone” is the option after that, for selection.

TEMPORARY BACKUPS shows 4.7 GB for old 6S+, last backup yesterday. (…will be deleted once transfer complete…it is stuck on 4.7 GB)

”Delete & Turn Off Backup”, should I select that?

Thanks for a quick response!

As of now, it is still stuck and not progressing. I'm leaving wi-fi on, plugged in, and have disabled auto-lock display (keeping on all the time).

I will erase the new phone and start over when I am able to be home for a while.

I'm running out of free extra iCloud space days.

I will report back what happens. :-)

After my last reply, around 1A, I decided to go ahead & start over.

I followed the instructions in your link for using iCloud backup. I kept the new phone plugged in awhile I slept, & always connected to my fiber wi-if.

As of 10A today, nothing has changed. Same exact MB, just stuck. :-(

I set up all of my Wallet cards & 16 email accounts as I went—only thing I did differently. Is my iCloud corrupted? Please help!
