Why can't I preview some audio files in finder?
I've been a Mac user for almost 10 years and I've never seen my audio files look like this in finder. Instead of the normal square icon with a grey music note that displays a "play" button to listen to the file right in finder, today all of a sudden I noticed some of audio files have started displaying as a page icon with the Music symbol and the file type. I can't preview these files in Finder, nothing shows up when I hover over them.
The weird part is though, only some of my file previews have changed. Some of them are still showing the old icon and are able to be listened to in Finder as always. But it's not a case of different file types. If you look at this screenshot I just took, this is how they're being displayed everywhere across my computer. Some audio file previews are the same as they always have been, and some are unable to be played, seemingly with no rhyme or reason, as both .WAV and .MP3 files are showing both ways.
Inspecting the files with "get info", I was still unable to rule out any discrepancy that would cause this to affect some files but not others. The Finder-playable files completely vary in sizes, anywhere from 4-100MD. But the files with the Music icon that I can't play in Finder also vary in size just as much. All of these files were exported from the same source.
I've seen a bunch of other threads where other people have this same issue on here, but everyone in the responses have only suggested workarounds and no actual solutions. Please don't reply with "just play it in the info window of the file" or "use columns instead". I'm aware that can be done. Just as I'm sure the dozens of other people who've posted about this on here are aware of as well. The reason I'm posting this is because opening a new window for each file every single time I want to preview an audio file is significantly less convenient that being able to click one button. This is a feature Finder has offered for years until now, and it makes zero sense why some of my files would still be playable in Finder but not others.
I want to be able to use the function that I've relied on daily since my first use of a Mac. I don't want a workaround, I want a solution.
