Joint Group Messaging with iMessage and Android users no longer works on Wi-Fi on iOS 16

I updated from iOS 15 to 16.0.2 (now 16.0.3) and since I have upgraded, text threads that include Android users (green message bubble) in a conversation with iPhone users show my messages as Not Delivered and are not received. The key here is that this ONLY happens when I am on any Wi-Fi. If I turn off Wi-Fi and just send the message over cellular ONLY, it will properly deliver the message. Any thoughts on this? Because it works on cellular, my cellular provider is properly provisioned, but when on Wi-Fi it will not send. This worked just fine on iOS 15, only started when I upgraded to iOS 16.

Please help! Thank you in advance.

Hey Crattler,

To help you solve your issue, make sure "Send as SMS" is enabled in Settings > Messages > Send as SMS.

Also, make sure "MMS Messaging" and "Group Messages" are on as well. If they are already on, toggle them off and toggle them back on.

Take care.

Hello Crattler,

Have you had a chance to try a different Wi-Fi network?

If you send a message to an Android device not within a group, does that go through?

Since SMS messages are controlled by your carrier, you may want to reach out to hem to see if there is any issue on their end.

We would suggest you work through these steps found at If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone or iPad:

If you have issues with Messages after you set up a new device
If you experience issues like conversations in Messages showing up as separate threads or sent messages appearing as green message bubbles instead of blue message bubbles when you set up a new device, update your settings using the following steps:
1. Update your device to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS if needed.
2. In the Settings app, tap Cellular. Make sure that your phone line is turned on. If you use multiple SIMs, make sure that the phone number you want to use is selected and turned on.
3. In the Settings app, tap Messages. Turn iMessage off and then back on.
4. Tap Send & Receive.
5. Tap the phone number that you want to use with Messages.

Cheers.

I have done these steps. I also just got a refreshed eSIM from my carrier, changed my plan to the latest, and this problem still persists. This has to be an OS bug since I can successfully send direct Android messages only one on one with my Wi-Fi active. I have also tried other Wi-Fi connections as well. I can only send a group text that has an Android and iMessage user on it when Wi-Fi is inactive, but again, I can send when only on cellular. Also, while on Wi-Fi I CAN send to an Android user individually without issue.

Point being, it still does not work on 16.0.3.

I appreciate the quick response. I just did that and the problem still exists (Not Delivered) Your Message was not sent)). Again, it is only occurring while I am on Wi-Fi. If I turn off Wi-Fi and just connect to cellular, it works.

I have already done network reset as well and that didn't work and I lost valuable Wi-Fi Passwords.

I am on Verizon 5G.

Is there a new setting with iOS 16 or something that could cause this? Everything worked correctly on iOS 15.
