What exactly is a push workout?

I’ve been wearing my Apple Watch for several days and have completed several outdoor workouts (hiking and running). Still no measurement for cardio fitness is shown in the health app. The Apple support page for cardio fitness measurements says that it is necessary to wear the watch for 24 hours and complete a few workouts. There is a disclaimer that push workouts are not supported. I have not been able to find a definition for what exactly a push workout is elsewhere in Apple documentation. Can anyone please define it? I’ve completed my workouts using only my Apple Watch, and have not had my phone within range. Could this be a push workout? Could this be a reason why I still see no cardio fitness measurement?

Thanks for your helpful reply, and for clarifying what a push workout is.

I've been able to verify that my outdoor runs, outdoor walks, and hikes are all syncing to my iPhone as I am able to view details on the workouts such as how much time was spent in each heart rate zone and much more. I am very satisfied with the level of detail shown about these workouts.

I am a bit disappointed that I still see `No Data` displayed when I navigate in the Health app > Heart > Cardio Fitness.

Should I be concerned considering I have been wearing the watch for five days and have completed five 60+ minute workouts of the type qualifying for VO2 max estimate / Cardio Fitness?

Fitness tracking was the primary reason I purchased the watch, I am hopeful that this data shows soon.

Hi harr1424,

Per Track your cardio fitness levels the following are used to estimate your cardio fitness:

  • "Age
  • Sex
  • Weight
  • Height
  • Medications that might affect your heart rate"

Confirm that these pieces of information are properly recorded in Apple Watch App - Health - Health Details. If so and you still do not see cardio information, use Apple Support to connect with AppleCare to investigate further.

Regards.

Hiharr1424 ,

Thanks for posting in Apple Communities.

We understand that you have questions about a workout type. A push workout would consist of exercises where you're pushing away from your body such as a push up or bench press.

When you complete a workout from your Apple Watch it is to sync to iPhone and show in Health app. Once Apple Watch has collected enough data, you will see trends visible in Fitness app.

Track daily activity with Apple Watch

Check to see if other workout types sync to Health app. Make sure that iPhone and Apple Watch are updated to the latest software in Settings > General > About.

Regards.
