Apple TV App "Soap Opera Effect" on Samsung Smart TV

I have a Samsung un50au8000f Smart TV with Motion Smoothing turned OFF. I am watching the Apple TV app native to the Samsung TV itself. In other words, I am not accessing Apple TV via any external device such a Roku, etc. I do not experience the so-called "Soap Opera Effect" on any other app such as Netflix, Amazon or Hulu. I DO experience the Soap Opera Effect while viewing through the Apple TV app. I have already tried restricting content from Apple TV to Standard Definition. That did not work. Does anyone have any specific suggestions on fixing this issue? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities! Since you're having issues with the Apple TV app, we suggest resetting it to try and resolve this behavior:


  1. "Open the Apple TV app or Apple TV+ app.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Choose the Reset option."


Find these steps in the article Get the Apple TV app or Apple TV+ app on your smart TV or streaming device.

Keep in mind, resetting the app removes your personal information and restores the app to its original settings. If you use the Apple Music app, it will also restore that app to factory settings. Additionally, you can reinstall the app if it persists after the reset.


Should it continue, contact Apple Support to look into this further.
