Text to Table in Pages 10.1 Mac OS 10.14.6

I have tab separated tex and want to create a table.


1) I made a table

2) I selected and copied the tab separated text with return character at end of each line

3) I clicked once to select the first cell of the table

4) Edit -> Paste and Match Style

Result -> The table was replaced by the text


I learned this procedure in a former article on this topic.


What am I doing wrong? How do I make it work?

On results of a quick check, I think your step 4 may be the culprit.


4 EDIT -> Paste and Match Style


Here's a run through of my test:


(In Pages): Create a list of text values, separated by tabs and with a return after each five items:


A B C D E F


G H I J K L


M N O P Q R


S T U V W X


Y Z ! @ # $


IN Numbers:

Insert an empty table with five or fewer columns and five or fewer rows.

(I used a single column table with five rows)


Click ONCE on cell A1 (or A2 if you included a header row) to select that cell.

Paste.


Result:

Note that the selection (bordered in blue) has expanded to include all the cells receiving the pasted text.
