AirTag Location Exceptions: will it prevent beeping after extended periods in that location?

Really having a tough time finding an answer for this: I have several locations set up as exceptions - i.e., "don't notify me if I leave my AirTags at these locations." Works perfectly, and is really helpful for hotels, work, etc.

So if I leave my AirTag at one of these exception locations for more than 8-24 hours, will it begin to beep after 8-24 hours? Or does setting up the exception ALSO turn off beeping in addition to notifications?

All the documentation talks about how exceptions turn off notifications, but not about whether the lonely remote AirTag will begin to beep after 8-24 hours has elapsed in that location.

I'd hate to come home (or to my car in an airport lot) after 2 weeks and find the AirTag battery dead.

Hello micklepdx,

An AirTag will make a sound when it is separated for a period of time from its owner, when it's moved.

The "If you hear an AirTag emitting a sound" part of the following link has more information about that and outlines situations when an AirTag will make a sound, and may be helpful: What to do if you get an alert that an AirTag, Find My network accessory, or set of AirPods is with you

If you hear an AirTag emitting a sound

To alert people nearby, any AirTag separated for a period of time from its owner will emit a sound when it's moved. If you find an AirTag after hearing it make a sound, you can use any device that has NFC, such as an iPhone or Android phone, to see if its owner marked it as lost and if you can help return it. If you feel that this AirTag or Find My network accessory might be tracking people without their consent, you can get instructions on how to disable it.

Take care.

Thanks Brittany. I’m aware of the sound/chirp/beep after a period of time, which serves a useful purpose.

My question is more about whether the Location Exception feature prevents the beeping if I leave an AirTag at home for a month, for example. If my item gets moved, but stays at home the whole time, inside the Exception geofence, will it eventually begin beeping, or will it stay silent because it’s in a location exception zone?

Went to an Apple Store yesterday, and the the specialists weren’t quite sure either, but their consensus was that it would *probably* not beep.
