Apple TV Remote Backwards Compatability (2022)

After seeing the announcement for the new Apple TV, I was excited to see that the new remote used USB C since everything other than my iPhone has moved to USBC. Unfortuantely, I bought an Apple TV just over a month ago so I can't justify buying another one just for the remote.


Does anyone know if the remote for the 2022 Apple TV 4k is backwards compatible with the Apple TV 4k that was available previously and has the exact same remote configuration but with a Lightning connector?

The new Siri Remote with USB-C has the same functionality as the Siri Remote (2nd generation) before October 18. Only the charging connector is different now. It is compatible with Apple TV (4th generation or later) with tvOS 14.5 or later.
