watch OS won’t update to 8.7.1

Success with the upgrade now after going to 16.1

For those whoever had been unable to update their phones sofar; apple services update the phones whitout any trouble regardless the warranty period is over. At least Turkey Apple did :)

Not 100% sure. but many people say that the apple stores have sent off effected watches and fixed them.

Maybe they just want to force us to get newer watches. Wouldn’t be the first time they pulled something like that. They got in trouble a few years back for messing with batteries. If I remember correctly.

The update was finally successful. It took like ages but now my Watch is being synced with my phone. I needed to restart the pairing once, since it got stuck after installing the update. I hope you all will be able to update and set up your watches once again

Still unfortunately not working for me. After updating to iOS 16.1, it I was hopeful because the preparing bar started to move but after it finished it would loop back and say that there is a new update to be installed (same 8.7.1) and would cycle again…on the third go unfortunately now. Watch is still bricked. sigh

It finally worked for me. I’m not sure what I did differently to make it work…I kept on trying and after the 4th or 5th loop it did something and finally said paired on the iPhone but not on the watch…then it took be to the start again for one more round and my Apple Watch finally works again. Very frustrating and such a waste of everyone’s time.

I got that today as well, so I stopped trying. Have got that no Internet thing before, I called Apple Support, useless, told me to wait 48-72 hours.

I also got update to 6.3 sometimes, it was actually downloading, but watch will restart a few times during downloading.

I don’t know how I can update my watch. I’m tired of trying. Wasted too much time.

Same, I updated my phone to 16.1 after checking back in on the thread and seeing that people were finally being able to sync the phone with the watch but my Series 3 watch will get all the way to the end of the 8.7.1 update and then the watch will restart and then will start all over again with the update. Please help someone!!!! :(

So many people have exact same issue. Do you think Apple make it on purpose to force users to buy new watch? But still many people are able to update their watches.

What decide whether you can or cannot get update? Manufacture date?

I bought mine in December 2019. It was manufactured in October 2019. What about your watches, guys?

I am facing the exact same situation as you. Tried on different phones too. The watch reboots either during the download or after downloading. iOS 16.1 didn’t fix the issue for me. I have also tried drained the battery, didn’t work. I think the only thing left for me is to ask Apple Store to manually update for me (which they probably would say they can’t.)

in my case they sent it back to me and offered replacement if the watch at a certain cost (full price).

it‘s really not fair, I don’t know what to do next.

in Romania we don’t have Apple, but IStyle.

Sent to a local store in NJ, was told the 8.7.1 updates is compatible with this series 3 watch no more, been used it combined in a few days and wasted 1 or 2 years of T-Mobile monthly phone services plus a screen protectors, case, and metal chain in its whole life and that’s it! What a scum!

me too. i am so frustrated. I am more than unsatisfied. i am honestly extremely angry about this. I have my watch to monitor my health and im not getting any benefits from a dead weight on my wrist. i really hope apple makes this right. its FEBRUARY of 2023 and this problem still is NOT fixed. If anyone from apple sees this, please message me and all of us and fix this. I have so many apple products and have never had an issue like this.

So a hot fix will be issued? I’m having same problem
