watch OS won’t update to 8.7.1

I have been endlessly trying to update my Apple Watch Series 3 to iOS 7.8.1 but every time I try it says “unable to verify” because of internet connection and then it downloads and gets stuck on “preparing” i left it all night and it’s still stuck on pending. I have tried everything, I have paired and unpaired it, I have tried turning off the Bluetooth and turning it back on, I’ve reset the device, I’ve deleted the update file from storage and tried again, I’ve restarted the device and my phone several times and it’s just not happening!

please somebody help I’m at my wits end with this Apple Watch :(

So, I finally book an appointment at Apple Store last week. They sent my watch out. Just got it back today. It has been updated to 8.7.1. I asked the guy at Genius Bar why this issue can’t be fixed. He said most likely it has something to do with storage. Even if we reset the watch, still not enough storage for the update. 8.7.1 is most likely the last update watch 3 will get. If you are not able to update at home, you need to go for Apple Service centre to get it updated.

I’ve tried about 5 times over and keep getting the “couldn’t be verified because you are not connected to the Internet” error message on the phone.

The phone is definitely connected to the internet.

i am having the same problem that you had but an apple store is too far away for me. Do you have any idea what the Apple Store did different to get your watch to work?

Has there been any fixes? I bought a series 3 watch second hand and cannot pair it with my iphone 13pro.

My apple watch is still bricked months later, apple need to address the issues going to an applestore when i live in the country is not an option.
