My mothers iPhone continues to automatically block contacts and mostly they are friends and family. She spent an hour inside an Apple Store where they cleaned everything out, allegedly and it was supposed to be fine. Just the other day, the reverted back to blocking. This has gone on for over a year.
Does she share an Apple ID with anyone?
What it sounds like to me is that she's unblocking things and someone else is blocking them.
Of course, the other possibility, depending on your mother's age and eyesight, is that she's accidentally blocking people without realizing it.
