Update to iOS16. Your device (iPhone 12) is compatible with it.

This seems to have happened to me as well. I tried all the suggested fixes from Apple. When trying to reset the Face ID the camera seems unable to recognize depth. It repeatedly tells me iPhone is too high or too low.

Can you provide a screenshot of this? You model is most certainly compatible with iOS16. And, installing updates install bug fixes and allows for newer compatibility options.

Give it a Few Days:

It might not be available in your location. So, await an automatic update.

As the screenshot reads: "Your iPhone software is up to date. iTunes will automatically check for an update again on 10/28/2022."
