Infinite error loop

Can’t exit iPhone setup and cannot update watch due to setup failure (no internet connection, but have one). It’s an infinite loop of trying to update watchOS w install failure. iPhone stuck in setup mode w no way to exit. This is apparently a common old problem that’s resulted in trashed Apple Watches. My watch is useless right now as I cleared it to get new OS. Both watch and iPhone are stuck in setup mode with failure. There’s no way I know of to get out until successfully installing watchOS.

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like the best place to start will be forcing your Apple Watch and iPhone to shut down and restart. This will let you start this process over again from scratch, hopefully getting it resolved and helping you get back up and running.

Here is how to do that:

Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

Restart Apple Watch - Apple Support

Once you've done that, go ahead and try the setup process again and see if you're able to get everything sorted out. If not, reply back here and someone from the community may be able to weigh in further.
